Hematology concerns the study of blood and generation of blood in one’s bone marrow as well as the study and treatment of blood disorders. Some common hematology tests include Complete Blood Count (CBC), Bone Marrow Biopsies, Platelet Count, Prothrombin Time (PT) and Urinalysis. Depending on the type of blood disease, recovery and treatments can take anywhere from a few days with little treatment, to prolonged treatment and extended recovery time.
When you come for a visit at NHOH you will likely begin by having your blood drawn by one of the laboratory staff. We will then take a closer look at your blood underneath a microscope for the possible causes of your blood disorder. Often additional lab work and further testing will be ordered. Due to the fact that this type of problem may take some time to sort out, it may take a few visits before we are able to pinpoint the exact cause of your blood disorder.
